Lenten Beards – Praying with Bearded Saints

Every day this Lent, we’ll explore the

life and faith of a bearded Catholic saint.

We’ll pray with them, and together we’ll grow in holiness and manliness.

Sign up above to be part of the journey.

St. Francis de Sales

St. Francis de Sales

St Francis de Sales embodied the simple statement, “God is Love”. This short phrase shaped the whole of his ministry. This simple statement can be the most challenging part of all of Christ’s, and the Church’s, teachings for us to accept. We live in a world that wants to see us torn apart from our brothers and sisters, and one that wants us to draw lines that we feel God’s love should not cross. St Francis was instrumental in healing the wounds caused by these same types of divisions during the protestant reformation. As men (and women) of faith, can we also live Christ’s love in a way that is not bound by human lines?

Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength.

Daily Blessing of the Beard

Lord above, bless this beard

As it grows from my face.

Let it serve as a reminder that I am yours.

Let it serve as a symbol of my role in your kingdom.

Let it serve as a sign of your blessing in my life.

As I was anointed and claimed for you at my Baptism,

I anoint this beard as a reminder of love.

Today’s Prayer

Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;

Rather look to them with full hope that as they arise,

God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely
 through all things;

And when you cannot stand it, God will carry you
 in His arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;

The same everlasting Father who cares for you today
 will take care of you today and every day.

He will either shield you from suffering or will give you
 unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and
