Lenten Beards – Praying with Bearded Saints

GET THE DAILY PRAYERS IN YOUR INBOX

Every day this Lent, we’ll explore the

life and faith of a bearded Catholic saint.

We’ll pray with them, and together we’ll grow in holiness and manliness.

St. Nicholas of Myra

St. Nicholas of Myra

FEAST DAY: DECEMBER 6TH | LIVED: 270-343

Known for his mean right hook, dislike of Arianism, and his generous giving of gifts, St. Nicholas is without a doubt one of the most well known bearded Saints in the Western world. He is known for paying the dowry of young girls who could not, and providing for families in his community. During Lent we are called to give alms charitably to those in need as Christ gave his life freely to us.

Give with a generous heart.

Daily Blessing of the Beard

Lord above, bless this beard as it grows from my face.
Let it serve as a reminder that I am yours.
Let it serve as a symbol of my role in your kingdom.
Let it serve as a sign of your blessing in my life.
As I was anointed and claimed for you at my Baptism,
I anoint this beard as a reminder of love.
Amen.

Today’s Prayer

Almighty God,
who in your love gave to your servant Nicholas of Myra
a perpetual name for deeds of kindness on land and sea:
Grant, we pray,
that your Church may never cease to
work for the happiness of children,
the safety of sailors,
the relief of the poor,
and the help of those tossed by tempests of doubt or grief;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen
