Lenten Beards – Praying with Bearded Saints

GET THE DAILY PRAYERS IN YOUR INBOX

Every day this Lent, we’ll explore the

life and faith of a bearded Catholic saint.

We’ll pray with them, and together we’ll grow in holiness and manliness.

Sign up above to be part of the journey.

St. Cyril and Methodius

FEAST DAY: FEBRUARY 14TH | LIVED: 9TH CENTURY

You probably celebrated the feast day of these two bearded bros yesterday. Right? These two brother Saints shared more that just a mutual love of beards, languages, and Jesus. They also loved sharing so much that they created two new alphabets to help spread the gospel. After all their work to help proclaim God’s kingdom they also end up sharing their feast day with St Valentine and the patronage of Europe with St Benedict of Nursia (more on him tomorrow).

Share your gifts. Share His love.

Daily Blessing of the Beard

Lord above, bless this beard as it grows from my face.
Let it serve as a reminder that I am yours.
Let it serve as a symbol of my role in your kingdom.
Let it serve as a sign of your blessing in my life.
As I was anointed and claimed for you at my Baptism,
I anoint this beard as a reminder of love.
Amen.

Today’s Prayer

Father,

You brought the light of the gospel to the Slavic nations

through Saint Cyril and his brother Saint Methodius.

Open our hearts to understand your teaching

and help us to become one in faith and praise.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
